LED High Bay Lighting Plan
What is a LED High Bay Lighting Plan?
A LED High Bay Lighting Plan or Lighting Design Calculator is a Photometric Lighting Analysis for an indoor space that’s typically lit with high bays. When looking at an indoor high bay lighting calculation, you typically see rooms and light installation locations.
The software calculates light levels and provides a comprehensive visual layout report. The report displays calculation points representing the foot candle reading at defined locations.

High Bay Optics
Not every high bay is the same. They can vary by watts, efficiency and optics. All together, they represent a unique package of how much light the high bay will produce and how evenly distributed the light will be.
This is why The Lighting Center advocates photometric lighting plans. This literally reduces the risk of buying LED. You have no idea how well a LED fixture will perform until you run it through the photometric calculation software first. It will provide a visual representation of all the foot candle readings at different locations. But it will also tell you the average light levels and how evenly the light is distributed. Doing this step is crucial for a successful LED lighting conversion.
WorkShop Lighting Photometric – Target 75 foot candles
This shop is 100 ft X 100 ft with 20 ft high ceilings. The software calculated that it would need 42 150W LED UFO High Bays to meet the 75 foot candles requirement.

LED High Bay Lighting Layout Calculator
To use this calculator, enter the following:
- Length, Width and Height of room in feet
- Lumen output of the fixture you want to test
- The desired foot candles of the fixture
What it will return:
The approximate number of fixture you will need to get the required foot candle levels.
Please note: this is a lighting layout approximation tool. It should never be used in place of a lighting plan or photometric design. The basic tool we provide will not visually show how good the distribution is, light placement, what optic you may have to use or the avg/min foot candle ratios.
