The Children's Museum, Indianapolis, IN, USA
The Children's Museum of Indianapolis sends kids of all ages on a magically
colorful ride with Color Kinetics full spectrum digital lighting. In the early
1970s, the museum added an original Victorian-era Dentzel carousel to its
collection, and spent the next few years painstakingly restoring it to its
former glory. The carousel is now part of the museum's permanent exhibits,
offering carefree rides to the over 1 million children and adults who visit each
year. The museum added a high tech touch to the exhibit to entertain and
enthrall the museum's visitors on the carousel, as well as while they are in
line awaiting their carousel ride - full spectrum digital lighting from Color
Kinetics. The Museum installed Color Kinetics® ColorBlast® fixtures to
illuminate a 75' long wall behind the carousel with vibrant colors and brilliant
color changing effects. Approximately 24 ColorBlast fixtures are inconspicuously
hidden in an alcove on the ceiling above the 20' tall wall. The unique design of
ColorBlast uses an industrial-grade constant torque hinge, meaning the slim and
sleek fixtures can be angled so that the wall is softly bathed in a wash of
colors and color changing effects. The fixtures are controlled via an ETC
lighting console to run a custom 20-minute light show of fixed colors, color
washes and rainbows throughout the day. Completing the exhibit is a 50' in
diameter, midnight blue ceiling with 5,000 fiber optic "stars."
